Course: Business Process Modeling and Management

Duration: 2 days; registration at 8:00 AM day one, class begins at 8:30 AM; class ends at 4:00 PM final day.

Overview: Most organizations have learned the value of viewing business functions as a set of linked processes instead of isolated activities. Identifying and mapping the true current state process, creating the desired model and methods for ongoing management form the basis for process improvement programs, creating effective cross-functional performance measures and in/outsourcing decisions.

Who should attend: Project managers, operations managers, process improvement champions, systems analysts, six sigma participants, subject matter experts, materials and distribution managers

Agenda:

Identifying the current state process

  • Why model? process improvement, ISO 9000, other

  • Defining elements of the process- activities, links, dependencies, resources/functions, triggers, transactions and data collection points

  • Data gathering/interviewing process definition techniques

  • Overall goal and end result of current process (reason for being)

  • Internal and external customers and owners of the process

  • Defining value in the process

  • Type: strategic, operational, reporting, support, other

  • Case studies and industry examples

Mapping and optimizing the current process

  • Identifying the desired new state

  • Mapping, gap analysis and charting tools 

  • Impact of process change on other processes (elements common to many processes)

  • Aligning the process change with overall business objectives and business rules

  • Simulation, and ranking and selecting best change alternative

  • Process change implementation strategies

  • Developing ongoing process management and measurement tools

Each area includes: Typical policy issues, glossary, case study or exercise.

Fee: $925 US for 2 days; $775 per person when 2 or more attend from same company. Includes materials and handouts, continental breakfast, lunch and coffee service but not dinner, lodging or transportation.
