Course: Business Performance Measurement Development

Duration: 2 days; registration at 8:00 AM day one, class begins at 8:30 AM; class ends at 4:00 PM final day.

Overview: While every organization operates in a different environment, they all need to measure progress against internal goals and the competition.  Traditional measurements may provide familiar reference points, but often encourage behavior that suboptimizes total company performance in favor of individual departments or programs.  The goal of this course is to help define measurements that provide timely, company-specific measurements that accurately portray status, satisfy legal and third-party reporting requirements and prioritize improvement areas.

Who should attend: Operations and financial department managers, process improvement champions, C-level executives involved in sales and operations planning, group training managers

Agenda:

Defining the basics

  • Reason for the measurement- internal reporting vs. third-party requirements

  • General elements of useful performance measurements- timely, predictive, relevant

  • Accurately measuring current state systems, and establishing baselines for future states

Choosing appropriate measurements

  • Defining the frequency and level of aggregation

  • Creating predictive vs. reactive measurements

  • Value vs. cost of collection

  • Measuring the competition: benchmarking, best practices and industry studies

  • Standard general and industry-specific tools: Balanced Scorecard, EVA, SCOR model, other

Implementation strategies

  • Creating dashboards and custom reporting systems

  • Building measurement into the process

  • Creating visibility, buy-in and eliminating opportunities for inaccurate and missing reporting

  • Aligning measurements and reward systems

  • Maintaining consistent data- history and consolidation 

Course includes: Examples of sample measurements, typical policy issues, glossary, exercises and quizzes.

Fee: $975 US for 2 days; $775 per person when 2 or more attend from same company. Includes materials and handouts, continental breakfast, lunch and coffee service but not dinner, lodging or transportation.
